   SWEEPS AND SHUTTERS

Spider - photo by Valda Tappenden
The speed at which the Sweeps rotate is controlled by means of this Spider mechanism.

As the Spider moves back, the Triangles and Operating Rods act on the Shutters to close them.

Rack This rack is attached to the Spider by means of the Striking Rod.

The rack is controlled by the shaft in the background which..

Weight Wheel ..passes outside the mill to the centre of the weight wheel mounted on the back of the Mill.

Around the rim of the weight wheel is a chain which runs down to the Spout Floor.

The Miller would spend most of his working day on the Spout Floor.
